About MagShop

In an increasingly competitive digital landscape, even industry leaders like MagShop face challenges in maintaining organic visibility. Our mission was to not just compete, but to dominate. Through a laser-focused SEO strategy, we redefined MagShop’s organic presence, delivering high-intent traffic that converts.

MagShop is Australia’s go-to for magazine subscriptions, but even the biggest names need a little SEO magic to stay ahead. Our mission? To crank up MagShop’s organic presence, especially for non-branded searches, over six months (Sep 2024 – Feb 2025).

Challenges

Midway through the campaign, we noticed a 17% drop in rankings for high-converting search terms due to an unexpected Google algorithm update. Our organic revenue was at risk, and immediate action was needed.

To counter this, we conducted a rapid algorithm impact analysis, adjusted our keyword strategy, and strengthened technical SEO elements.

Our Approach

Our approach wasn’t just about ranking higher, it was about creating an SEO ecosystem that engaged and converted. From a data-backed content overhaul to strategic partnerships with top publishers, we designed an SEO strategy that not only met Google’s standards but also captivated real readers.

We tackled this campaign with a trifecta of SEO firepower, technical SEO, content strategy and digital PR, to supercharge MagShop’s organic visibility.

How we made it happen:

  • Backlink strategy: We built a high-authority backlink profile, securing links from relevant media, bloggers and industry publishers to strengthen MagShop’s domain credibility.
  • Content expansion: Key magazine landing pages got a full SEO makeover, with richer, more structured content that kept users engaged longer and pushed rankings higher.
  • Keyword gap analysis: Competitor research helped us pinpoint high-intent and non-branded keywords, which helped MagShop show up where it mattered most.
  • Internal linking: We reinforced site structure, making it easier for search engines to crawl and pass authority across key pages.

The creative execution hinged on finding a balance between SEO best practices and engaging content, so that search engines and readers found value in MagShop’s pages.

Outcomes

This campaign did more than just hit targets; it smashed them. We saw the following results:

  • Non-branded clicks shot up from 56,523 to 90,117 – a massive 59.5% jump.
  • Organic sessions surged from 38.92% YoY (May 1 – Jan 31), leaping from 102,337 to 142,166 – well beyond the 10% target.
  • Organic revenue for May 1 – Jan 31 YoY went up by over 54%, smashing projections and goals.

Not only did we exceed every target, but we also built a long-term SEO foundation that will continue delivering results. By cutting reliance on third-party retailers, we helped MagShop take control of its organic market share, driving sustainable growth far beyond the campaign period.
