Adobe Commerce is the newer name for Magento’s paid enterprise platform. Magento Open Source is still the free, open-source version, but many people still say “Magento” when talking about both. For SEO, the name matters less than the setup: which version you’re on, how it’s hosted, how the catalogue is structured and how much control your team has over technical fixes.

Sometimes. Magento can be excellent for complex catalogues, multi-store setups, B2B eCommerce, custom workflows and serious product architecture. Shopify is often cleaner for simpler operations, while WooCommerce can work well when the WordPress ecosystem matters. That said, the best platform isn’t the one with the loudest fan club. It’s the one that fits your catalogue, team, budget, growth plan and appetite for technical management.

It depends on the size of the store, catalogue complexity, technical debt, competition and how much work needs to happen across technical SEO, content and links. A 500-SKU store with a clean setup is not the same job as a multi-store Adobe Commerce build with 40,000 products and layered navigation doing interpretive dance. Most Magento SEO campaigns need 3 to 6 months to show meaningful movement, with more competitive stores often needing 6 to 12 months for stronger organic sales growth. Technical fixes can create early wins sooner, especially around crawlability, indexation, redirects, canonicals or page speed. But category growth, product visibility, backlinks and revenue gains need consistent work. Magento gives us a powerful engine. Google still makes us earn the lap times.

We do it very carefully. Layered navigation can create a parade of filter URLs, duplicate pages and low-value paths that soak up crawl budget and confuse search engines. We review what’s being indexed, what should stay discoverable, what needs canonical handling, what should be blocked or noindexed and how internal links point authority through the catalogue. The trick is not killing useful shopper paths while cleaning up the SEO confetti.

Magento 1 reached end of life in June 2020, so staying there usually means higher security, support and development risk. Whether you move to Magento 2, Adobe Commerce, Shopify, WooCommerce or another platform depends on your catalogue, integrations, budget, team and growth plans. Magento can be fast, but it will not stay fast by accident. When it does slow down, the platform isn’t automatically the villain. Heavy themes, oversized images, too many extensions, poor hosting, uncached pages, scripts and bloated templates can all drag Core Web Vitals down. It’s usually the years of “just add this one thing” decisions.

Yes! In fact, Magento SEO usually works best when SEO, dev and hosting aren’t pretending the others don’t exist. That might cover redirects, canonicals, sitemap setup, schema, cache behaviour, page speed, templates, extensions or server-side constraints.

Some fixes need configuration. Some need custom code. Some need a better strategy before anyone installs another module and quietly makes the site heavier. The goal is the right fix, not the most exciting-looking extension.
